Before and After

Who doesn’t love a good before and after? Every good DIY or HGTV show starts with the broken, forgotten, and outdated house on the block. But somewhere in an hours time and a couple of moved walls later you hear, “bus driver, move…that… bus”, or  “are you ready to see your fixer upper”, and it is transformed into a street of dreams house suitable for a king.

I can tell you first hand that our house renovation would not have fit nicely into a one hour segment. In fact, our renovation can’t be a “would not have” since it is still underway. Maybe the shows with a team of professionals could pull that off so that it flows seamless. But if you want the DIY experience (the me, myself, and I) you better plan for a sitcom.

Before I unleash the many “episodes” in our DIY sitcom I wanted to start with “what was” and “what is”. This is not to get oohing and ahhing (although it is welcome), but to give you a general overview of where we started and how much has changed. Then once you see it as a whole, we can break it down into “episodes” that highlight the joys and hardships of specific changes and projects.

I promise not to leave out the nitty gritty. The rotten subfloors, the endless nights of pizza and beer, the popcorn ceiling from hell, the leaks and drips, and all the other fun stories. I also promise to include references to where we got our supplies, fixtures, and hardware so that you too can join the crazy train and restore your 1912 farm house.

I think as the episodes continue I might have to take some suggestions on what you would call our sitcom. So be thinking 🙂
